100 Prayer Journal Prompts to Deepen Your Prayer Life
100 Prayer Journal Prompts to Deepen Your Prayer Life
A prayer journal prompt is a scripture-backed question or focus that guides your conversation with God. Unlike free-form journaling, prompts give you a starting point when words don’t come easily—and they ensure your prayer life stays balanced across worship, confession, gratitude, and requests.
I started using prayer prompts after realizing my prayers had become a repetitive list of requests. “Help me with this. Fix that. Give me patience.” It wasn’t conversation—it was a wishlist. Prayer prompts changed that.
The prompts below use the ACTS method: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication. This ancient framework ensures you don’t just ask for things—you worship, acknowledge your need for grace, and express gratitude before bringing requests.
Quick Reference: The ACTS Method
| Letter | Category | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| A | Adoration | Praising God for who he is |
| C | Confession | Acknowledging sin and receiving forgiveness |
| T | Thanksgiving | Expressing gratitude for what God has done |
| S | Supplication | Bringing requests and needs to God |

Tips for Effective Prayer Journaling
Write honestly. Your journal is between you and God. Don’t perform—confess, question, struggle.
Date your entries. Looking back at answered prayers builds faith.
Don’t overthink it. There’s no wrong way to respond. Just start writing.
Be specific. “Help my marriage” is less powerful than “Help me be patient when Sarah interrupts.”
Return to it. Revisit old entries to see how God has worked.
FAQ
How long should I spend on each prompt?
Start with 10 minutes. If the Spirit leads you deeper, keep going. There’s no required length.
What if I don’t know what to write?
Write that. “God, I don’t know what to say right now…” is a perfectly valid prayer.
Should I use these prompts every day?
Use them when helpful. Some days you’ll pray spontaneously. Other days, prompts will be a lifeline.
Can I modify the prompts?
Absolutely. Make them your own. The goal is conversation with God, not rigid formulas.
What if I keep repeating the same confessions?
That’s normal. Some battles take time. Keep confessing, keep receiving grace.
