Sermon Editor - Write Better Sermons, Faster
Sermon Editor: Write Better Sermons in Half the Time
The Scriptured Sermon Editor is a distraction-free writing tool built specifically for pastors and preachers. It includes verse auto-complete, sermon templates, a built-in illustration library, and focus mode. Most pastors report cutting their sermon prep time by 40-50% after switching.
Here’s the problem: Word and Google Docs weren’t designed for sermon writing.
You’re constantly switching tabs to look up verses. You’ve got a folder somewhere with illustrations you can never find when you need them. Your sermon archive is a mess of files named “Sunday_message_final_v3_REAL_FINAL.docx.”
We built something better.
Type a Verse Reference, Get the Text Instantly
This is the feature pastors love most. Type any Bible reference in your sermon—like “John 3:16” or “Romans 8:28-30”—and Scriptured automatically detects it.
A small popup appears with the verse text. Press Enter to insert it inline. Press Tab to insert it as a formatted blockquote. That’s it.
No more copying and pasting from Bible Gateway. No more switching tabs mid-thought. Your writing flow stays unbroken.
The verse lookup uses your preferred Bible version (KJV, ESV, NIV, etc.) and works with single verses, verse ranges, and passage references.
Slash Commands: Format Without Touching Your Mouse
Type ”/” anywhere in the editor and a command menu appears. From there you can:
- Add headings (H1, H2, H3)
- Create bullet or numbered lists
- Insert blockquotes for Scripture
- Add horizontal dividers between sections
- Apply text highlighting
- Align text left, center, or right
Slash commands work like Notion, but optimized for sermon writing. Everything you need is two keystrokes away.
For pastors who prefer traditional toolbars, there’s a toggle switch in the editor. Pick whichever style fits your workflow.
200+ Sermon Illustrations at Your Fingertips
The sidebar panel gives you instant access to a searchable illustration library with:
- Illustrations - Analogies and examples that clarify concepts
- Stories - Real-world narratives that connect emotionally
- Quotes - Wisdom from theologians, authors, and historical figures
- Historical Facts - Context that brings Scripture to life
- Poems - Literary pieces for special moments
- Application Points - Practical takeaways for your congregation
Click any illustration to insert it directly into your sermon. Filter by category. Search by keyword. Build your own collection of favorites.
No more digging through old files or bookmarked websites for that perfect illustration you remember reading somewhere.
Sermon Templates for Every Format
Start with a blank page or choose from tested sermon structures:
- Expository sermon template
- Topical sermon framework
- Narrative sermon outline
- Three-point message structure
- Problem-solution-application format
Templates aren’t rigid outlines—they’re starting points that help you structure your thoughts faster. Modify them as needed, or create and save your own templates.
Organization That Actually Works
Every sermon can be tagged, categorized, and organized into series:
Series Management: Group sermons by sermon series. Track which week you’re on. Keep everything related in one place.
Tags: Add tags like “Easter,” “Evangelism,” or “Marriage” for easy filtering later.
Status Tracking: Mark sermons as Draft, In Progress, or Ready. Know exactly where each message stands.
Primary Scripture: Tag the main passage for quick reference.
Search Everything: Full-text search across all your sermons. Find that illustration you used two years ago in seconds.
Focus Mode for Deep Work
Click the focus mode button and everything disappears except your sermon text. No sidebars. No toolbars. No distractions.
Just you and the message you’re crafting.
When you need to reference illustrations or check your outline, one click brings everything back.
Auto-Save Means Never Losing Work
The editor saves automatically as you type. The timestamp in the corner shows exactly when your last save occurred.
Close your browser by accident? Your work is safe. Switch devices? Pick up right where you left off.
No more losing an hour of work because you forgot to hit Ctrl+S.
Export to Word When You Need It
Ready to print your notes or share with your team? Export to DOCX with one click. The formatting translates cleanly—headings, lists, blockquotes, everything.
Generate Small Group Discussion Questions
Finished your sermon? Click “Generate Discussion Notes” to create small group questions based on your message content.
The questions are tailored to your specific sermon, not generic templates. Your small group leaders get relevant discussion material without extra work from you.
